Made to last

Product Care

Every Ahzalhea piece is handmade to order, hand-dyed and hand-braided with natural fibers. A little gentle care helps preserve the color, braiding and fit for years to come.

Five simple care rules

Follow these steps for most Ahzalhea pieces. They protect the hand-dyed color, braided details and cotton-spandex stretch.

01

Wash cold

Cold water helps preserve both hand-dyed color and fabric elasticity.

02

Turn inside out

This reduces friction against the dyed surface, braids and slit-weave details.

03

Use gentle care

Choose a gentle cycle or hand wash. A mesh bag adds extra protection.

04

Skip harsh products

Avoid bleach, fabric softener and strong stain treatments.

05

Air dry only

Hang or lay flat to dry. Keep pieces away from hot dryers and prolonged direct sun.

Do Wash cold, reshape while damp and air dry.
Avoid Hot dryers, bleach, wringing and prolonged direct sun.

How to care for each type of piece

Leggings, tops, shorts and bodysuits

Braided and slit-weave pieces

The braids, ties and slit-weave are signature details, but they can catch against rough surfaces. Treat them gently during both washing and wear.

  • Turn the piece inside out and wash cold on a gentle cycle.
  • Place it inside a mesh laundry bag for additional protection.
  • Wash with similar textures and keep away from open zippers, hooks and rough fabrics.
  • Do not wring or twist. Gently press out excess water.
  • Reshape the braiding while the piece is still damp.
  • Hang or lay flat to dry.

Maker’s tip: Check that long ties and braids are loosely secured before washing so they cannot knot around other garments.

Individually colored by hand

Hand-dyed pieces

Each hand-dyed piece is unique. Slight differences in color placement and tone are part of the process—not a flaw.

  • Wash separately or with similar colors during the first few washes.
  • A small amount of excess dye release at first can be normal.
  • Always use cold water to reduce fading and bleeding.
  • Do not leave hand-dyed pieces soaking for long periods.
  • Dry away from prolonged direct sunlight.
  • Avoid strong stain removers, bleach and whitening products.

Maker’s tip: Store completely dry pieces away from strong window light to help preserve the richness of the dye.

Most apparel: 95% cotton and 5% spandex

Cotton-spandex and stretch fabrics

The cotton-spandex blend creates the soft, close, second-skin fit Ahzalhea pieces are known for. Heat is the biggest risk to both cotton and spandex.

  • Wash cold using a gentle cycle.
  • Air dry rather than using a tumble dryer.
  • High heat can weaken spandex and shrink cotton over time.
  • Do not iron directly over braids, slit-weave or dyed detailing.
  • When ironing is necessary, turn the piece inside out and use the lowest suitable heat.

A quick garment check

Taking thirty seconds before washing can prevent most snags and unnecessary wear.

1

Turn the garment inside out.

2

Loosely secure long ties and braids.

3

Check nearby garments for open zippers or hooks.

4

Use a mesh bag when extra protection is needed.
